Poison-Free Products:
Safe Alternatives For Dangerous Pesticides

LITITZ, Pa., June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- With word coming yesterday
about the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ruling limiting
chlorpyrifos, also known as Dursban or Lorsban
, Woodstream
Corporation, manufacturers of Victor Poison-Free pest control
are offering natural alternatives for pest problems.

The line of poison-free bugsprays are not harmful to humans, pets or
the environment, and include mint-based, garlic and other natural, safe
and effective alternatives to toxic chemicals.

"What the EPA is saying is nothing new to us," states Harry Whaley,
President of Woodstream Corporation. "According to studies, chlorpyrifos
residue can be found in food and in the bloodstream of most Americans
We think that the EPA is doing a tremendous service with its new ruling
on Dursban."

Still, it is incumbent on the consumer to know what is in the can of
over-the-counter pesticide, even when using products that are touted as
safe and natural.

Even if a pesticide is marketed as "safe" because it has a safe active ingredient
listed on its label, the inert ingredient, which is not required to be listed,
can be even more toxic than the pesticide's active one.

"What you don't know can hurt you: and when it comes to pesticides -- there
are many toxic secrets," states Pam Hadad-Hurst, Executive Director of the
New York Coalition for Alternatives to Pesticides

"The public and government regulators are concerned about pesticides used
on our food, applied on our school grounds, parks, forests, and communities --
but the debate usually centers on just one part of the formulation, the active
ingredient. It is crucial to look at 'inert' ingredients that compose the
bulk of many pesticide products

Woodstream Corporation, a Lititz, Pennsylvania company, has taken on
a mission to help consumers understand the dangers of pesticides and
to create poison free pest control alternatives.

The Victor line of Poison-Free pest control
is available in most Home Depots,
Lowes and lawn and garden shops and includes repellents and bug killers
made of natural ingredients, that are not harmful to humans or pets.

"As a leader in Poison-Free pest prevention, Woodstream has asked the
EPA to demand that pesticide manufacturers be required to disclose all
their ingredients
, not just the actives," states Harry Whaley. "But that is
only the first step. Consumers must learn to read labels and to recognize
poisonous chemicals. Then, and only then can they make educated decisions
about their pest-control methods."
