Smoke Causes Harm to Heart

Journal of the American Medical

A quote from the article:
Clive Bates, director of
Action on Smoking and Health said:
"It is as if the blood vessels in the heart react
suddenly to small doses of tobacco smoke --
almost like an allergic reaction or spasm. ... "
"Passive smoking has a serious impact
on the heart and is a real killer,
not just a nuisance or irritation."

Whether you agree with the following author's
conclusions or not,
the disturbing reports which continue to circulate regarding
the frightening, abusive ... and sometimes lethal ...
philosophies and tactics employed
by some Christian and church-based organizations
certainly raise troubling questions in the minds and hearts
of concerned
observers.
Do individuals associated with such organizations
believe they are, in actual fact,
above the laws of both man and
God?
More to the immediate point,
does SBU share these philosophies and
tactics?
God help us, how can THIS possibly be what it means to be Christian?

Today, the Nominating Committee of the Missouri
Baptist Convention
will consider a number of changes to rules governing
the nomination of trustees to various MBC agencies,
including both the MBC Executive Board itself
and the Trustees of Southwest Baptist University.
These revisions -- which would be implemented
without the consent or approval of the full Convention ---
would, after two decades of warring, give control
of the Missouri Baptist Convention and its agencies
to the fundamentalist-conservative faction.
Many fear this will split the Convention and, ultimately,
cause its disintegration.
[For further details of the conflict see:
Opinion: "Is the Tail Wagging the Dog?" by
Word and Way editor, Bill
Webb
and "Executive Board Oks Baptist Home Covenant "in
July 19, 2001 Word
and Way.]
Today, Marie is also preparing to ask that
the Missouri Baptist Convention and Southwest Baptist University
not continue to demand that she forfeit any more of her life
in order to accommodate
the immoral, unethical, and illegal conduct of SBU associates.
She recognizes that her own willingness to show kindness and mercy --
in spite of the brutality which has been shown her in exchange --
has come with a terrible price and may well cost her life.
Nonetheless, she has urged that -- for the sake of the "Little Ones" --
we pray that godliness and temperance reign and prevail in today's
meeting.
Therefore, we dedicate the following
to the leaders of both, of all, sides in these situations.

Marie is
our hero!
Before she courageously endured
extensive, week-long testing in January of 1992,
few doctors were willing to treat Gulf War soldiers,
but after witnessing Marie's agonizing symptoms
and the results of these rigorous tests,
her doctor was convinced.
He began to research and treat the cause
of the mysterious symptoms
displayed by the Gulf War vets
and placed several ads in the Dallas paper,
thus becoming one of the first doctors
to actively seek and treat Gulf War soldiers.
As a result,
the lives of many soldiers and their families
were changed for the better.
~~~~*~~~~
A reminder:
Not one Gulf War soldier
ever actually bled
or suffered from chemical burns
as a result of exposure to wartime chemicals.
If even one soldier had bled or shown
the acute symptoms of chemical injury
due to organophosphate chemical weapons,
then-president Bush (Senior) declared that
these chemical weapons
and their effects on the body
were so heinous
that he would feel justified in retaliating
with nuclear weapons --
thus initiating World War
III.
But ... when Marie bled
and suffered acute injuries
due to SBU's illegal organophosphate
pesticide misapplications,
SBU retaliated with
a decade-long war on
her.
Due to the illegal manipulation and retaliation by
