The New Millennium

After a long hiatus, today we will once again begin updating
this site.  We had hoped, and were told by several previously-
knowledgeable individuals that Southwest Baptist University
was considering some form of agreement.

No such agreement has materialized ...

Therefore, we proceed.

This week, we have already posted three (3) new pages.

First
, the
Emergency Medicine Textbook excerpts on
Organophosphate Pesticide Poisoning

This is a selection from an emergency medical textbook on
the treatment of organophosphate pesticide poisoning.

After reading the above excerpts, it is extraordinarily clear that --
to put it mildly -- SBU officials did everything wrong.

The university nurse, Nancy Hodges, and a number of other
staff members would not even help Marie to get to the hospital,
provide her with the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for
(what SBU claimed) was the "non-toxic" the pesticide, or even
tell her who had fumigated the buildings.

After seeing the nurse, Marie returned to her apartment, disoriented
and in pain.  She passed out on the bed, too sick to even make it to
the hospital.

When Marie's roommate returned home, she found Marie was
still ill and, at times, incoherent.  Claiming that she had already
seen the Nurse, Marie demanded that she be allowed to go back
to sleep as the Nurse had instructed -- so that she could attended
classes the next day.

 Nurse Hodges had already informed Marie that if she did not
attend class the next day, her absence would be unexcused and
would likely result in the failure of her coursework -- even though
Marie had not exceeded her limit of absences for the semester.

When Marie's roommate called Nurse Hodges later that evening
to confirm these instructions with her, Nurse Nancy Hodges assured
the roommate that she had already seen Marie earlier that day and
that Marie had simply had an "allergic" reaction to the "non-toxic"
pesticides used on campus.

According to Nurse Hodges, Marie was "fine" and was just trying to
start trouble.  When the roommate expressed concern that perhaps she
should take Marie to the hospital, Nurse Hodges insisted that Marie
be allowed to "sleep off" the "allergic" reaction.

"She will be fine by tomorrow," Nurse Hodges said and kept
saying.

But Marie didn't "sleep it off "and "tomorrow" has never come ...
this nightmare has never ended.

And it has been TWELVE YEARS now.

If Marie had gotten the antidote and proper treatment, she would
have been well in ten or TWELVE DAYS.

The arrogance, self-centeredness, hatred, and greed of some of the
officials and staff associated  with Southwest Baptist University is
stunning, astonishing ... and, for Marie, brutally tragic.

Second, the SBU Board of Trustees Page has been updated and expanded
to include a number of additional years.

 Please click on the appropriate year(s):

Newsgroup Posts

We have received permission to repost five (5) Internet Newsgroup
messages which detail the situation at Southwest Baptist University

        First,  AN EDUCATION TO DIE FOR...
which includes :
    Marie O'Hara's April 16, 1996 letter to the North Central Association
    of  Colleges and Schools

and
   Marie O'Hara's April 16, 1996 letter to the Missouri Dept of Agriculture

       Second, The "Cost" of a Christian Education
which describes some of the abuses of the National Direct Student Loan
Program (NDSL) at Southwest Baptist University .

        Third, SBU: You Think You Would Be SAFE at a CHRISTIAN
University

This post describes questionable conduct by SBU officials, staff, and employees
The post includes the:

    DIAZINON Label Warning,
    DIAZINON Note to Physician,
    DIAZINON PRECAUTIONS,
    DIAZINON Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS),

as well as descriptions of the experiences of other exposure victims at SBU
and excerpts from the Bolivar Herald Free Press, the Bolivar local newspaper.

        Fourth, INJURED CLASSICS SCHOLAR NEEDS HELP
This post recounts the (as-yet unsuccessful) search for a new university and a
means of completing Marie's education and college degree.

 Fifth,
"Visions and Revisions:  A Christmas Thanks"
The original short story -- "Visions and Revisions" -- written by
Marie O'Hara in 1980, won the

                      Southwest Baptist University
    1980 Scop Award for Creative Short Story Writing
          and the Dunnegan Scholarship in Literature.

During the 1998 Christmas Holidays, Marie rewrote the story
as a Christmas story and asked that it be presented to her friends
as a Christmas gift in thanks for their financial assistance.

The revised story and the following message was sent to a group
of her friends during the 1998 Christmas season.

~~~ New Pages~~~
This morning
Additions and Updates to the Pesticide Poisoning Page,
including links to three (3) other pages:
1)
For the Extension Toxicology Network Toxicology
Information Briefs
 on  Cholinesterase Inhibition.
Cholinesterase (ko-li-nes-ter-ace) is one of many important
enzymes needed for the proper functioning of the nervous systems
of humans, other vertebrates, and insects. Certain chemical classes
of pesticides, such as organophosphates (OPs) and carbamates
(CMs) interfering with, or 'inhibit' cholinesterase and cause
potentially fatal disruption of the nervous system.
Thank you for your prayers.  We located and fixed the formatting
glitch and have now posted ten (10) new pages:
1)  Dr. Claudia Miller 's Congressional Testimony
on Chemical Intolerance
United States House of Representatives Invited Testimony
by Claudia S. Miller, M. D., M. S. Environmental and
Occupational Medicine Department of Family Practice
October 26, 1999.
In October of last year, Dr. Miller was invited to testify on the
growing problem of chemical intolerance -- what she and her
colleagues are now refering to as TILT, Toxicant Induced Low
Tolerance
.
TILT symptoms were first noted among industrial workers at German
Wartime nerve gas factories.   Later, physicians described similar
symptoms among farm workers and others exposed to organophosphate
pesticides.
Now, researchers are finding similar symptoms have developed in
Gulf War Veterans who were exposed to low levels of  nerve gas,
pesticides, and other toxicants.   Dr. Miller provides a understandable
summary of their findings.
2) Brain Mapping the Chemically Sensitive
 by Donald L. Dudley, M.D., Seattle.
  Donald L. Dudley, M.D. was one of the speakers at the
Well Mind Association 1992 Symposium in October.
He presented new research that he is doing on identifying
actual injury in the brains of sensitive individuals on
exposure to substances using electroencephalogram and
evoked response measuring techniques and exposing them
to common chemicals.
Morning ~ Monday, February 14, 2000 about 8:00 am (CST)
Yesterday, we were informed that Dr. James Sells had returned
to California ... his father passed away this week.
We were to post information regarding the unethical or illegal
conduct of the SBU administration this morning -- much of it
involving Dr. Sells or his administration or influence.
Under the circumstances, however, Marie was hesitant.
We reminded her that Dr. Sells and those associated with SBU,
First Baptist Church of Bolivar, and others |were merciless,
manipulative,  cruel -- even vicious -- each of the times that
she lost loved ones:
her father in  May 1984; her mother in May 1994, and, in June
of 1996, her brother-in-law and her beloved little nephew.
But Marie answered:
    "Yes, and in all likelihood, I will bare those scars for the rest
of my life, but I have no desire to follow their example.
No matter what Dr. Sells has done or said, no matter how he has
terrorized or injured me and my family ... his father has died.
It doesn't matter who you are, or how old you are, when your
father or mother dies -- everything changes.  At least for a few days,
let him grieve his father."
Though we will complete the details to formally open this site
today, we have agreed to delay some of the posting for a few days
longer.
                                      ~~~~*~~~~
We are told that the SBU Trustees will be opening the
February 14-15 SBU Winter Trustee Meeting this morning.

It is our prayer that the Trustees have the wisdom to use this
pause to
FINALLY do what is right over the next two days --
for everyone's sake.

The SBU Trustees met Monday and Tuesday of this week -- February 14 and 15.

As far as we can determine, the Trustees  -- once again -- refused to take
corrective or responsible action in this situation.

We trust that Dr. Jim Sells has returned from his family affairs in California
and, again, we express our condolences to him and his family.

However, Marie and others continue to suffer and we must now proceed ...

  The "Healing Hearts Proposal" Introduction

The "Healing Hearts Proposal" was faxed to the President of Southwest
Baptist University, Dr. C. Pat Taylor, in September 1999.

Spitting furiously, the lead attorney for Southwest Baptist University,
Mr. Gary Cunningham, venomously and maliciously rejected any discussion
or negotiation of this -- or any other -- proposal, offer, or agreement.

Thursday (February 17, 2000), this proposal was faxed to the leadership of
the Missouri Baptist and Southern Baptist Conventions including:
   SBU Alumnus and Executive President of the Missouri Baptist Convention,
Mr. Jim Hill
;
   the Editor of the Missouri Baptist Convention newspaper, the Word and Way,
Mr. Bill Webb;
   the current President of the Southern Baptist Convention, Mr. Paige Patterson,
and the President of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the
  Southern Baptist Convention, Dr. Richard Land.

Further history, comments, pages and additions are to be posted this weekend.

Morning ~ Saturday, February 26, 2000 about 7:30 am (CST)

This week, we have been busy distributing information about this situation
to various Christian and Baptist leaders and to the media and press.

If the governance of Southwest Baptist University insists on acting in
an unethical and illegal manner, at the very least ... they need an audience.

We have delayed posting any further history, comments, pages and additions
until we were certain that other Baptist leaders were alerted.

We are now assured that Baptist leaders and educators have been fully
apprised and are, therefore, responsible for their actions ... or inaction.

Please check for updates daily (around 7:30 am CST) as we will
henceforth be posting on a regular basis.

A number of new pages are scheduled to be posted today.

Morning~ Monday, February 28, 2000 about 7:00 am (CST)

This morning, we have only one news items that we would like to bring to the
attention of the SBU Trustees and the Missouri Baptist Convention.

Man Convicted of Chemical Assault on Severely Allergic Woman
   BBC News

Although a more detailed description will be forthcoming, for the moment,
we will post this with only a brief comment.

In addition to the break-in by the Polk County Sheriff's Department and
a social worker from the Missouri Division of Aging, Marie has survived
at least fifteen (15) assaults with pesticides or petrochemicals to the outside
of  her home or grounds.

Each of the chemical attacks occurred usually between 1:00 am and
3:00 am in the early morning  -- each within a day or so of one of the
seven electrical disconnections, or when a major move was made in
either her civil or criminal complaints against SBU, or when Marie
attempted to ask for some kind of Community or Church assistance.

Believing this pattern to be somehow unrelated or "coincidental" is just
not rational.

Though these attacks were excruciating and debilitating, Marie survived.

Marie's two outdoor dogs --  Phoenix and Ree -- and an outdoor cat,
however, were murdered as a result of three such attacks.

(A second outdoor cat -- an older kitten -- was run over repeatedly,
horribly mutilated, and the barely-recognizable corpse was tossed over
