A Letter to Dr. C. Pat Taylor,
President and CEO of
Southwest Baptist University
It is our understanding that
SBU President
Dr. C. Pat Taylor believes that as he was
not SBU president at the time of some of
these events, he should not be asked to deal
with disciplining the SBU staff and faculty.
Upon reflection and discussion we agree.
Therefore, Marie is rewriting her request
to incorporate the two SBU presidents
who were more prominently involved --
Dr. Jim Sells and
current Congressman of the
7th Missouri District, Roy Blunt.

The Peaceful Heart
Resolution
Marie will re-open
her offer for
a
peaceful resolution to this
situation
and extend it until noon on
Thursday, May
3.
Withdrawn due to hostility from
the SBU administration and
associates.
~~~*~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~
~*~Withdrawn~*~
Through the
"Peaceful Heart
Resolution," Marie had
hoped to establish an initial agreement to negotiate
a peaceful and responsible arrangement in good faith.
However, soon after the
announcement of this letter was
posted on Monday, April 30, 2001, it became apparent
that certain local factions of the SBU administration and
associates will not tolerate
talk of a rational, peaceful
negotiation to this situation.
Therefore, Marie has asked that the announcement
of the "Peaceful Heart
Resolution"
be withdrawn
for the time being.
Instead, Marie is sending a series of signed letters via
certified mail to a variety of officials including:
the president
of
Empire Electric District
Company,
the governing boards of
the Missouri Baptist Convention
and the entire
SBU Board of Trustees
(in time for the May 7-8
meeting).

A Letter to Mr. Jim Hill,
Executive Director of the
Missouri Baptist Convention
and
the
Southwest Baptist University
Trustees
and
others
Marie urges that Mr. Jim Hill and the
Southwest Baptist University Trustees
to immediately remedy
their lack of diligence
in dealing with the immoral, unethical
and possibly criminal conduct
of SBU officials, faculty, and associates.
In handling these situations,
Marie encourages Mr. Hill to exercise
"intelligent
compassion"
and
"people
stewardship"
--
the wise and responsible investment
in people and their God-given gifts.
Though Marie acknowledges that dismissal
of certain employees may now be inevitable
in some cases, she advocates for a more
balanced and constructive form of discipline
that involves
"re-investment in life and people
(even when people
fail)"
rather than the more severe, career-destroying
punitive measures.
However, Marie asks that
she
not
be required to continue to carry
the life-crushing
financial, emotional, psychological, academic,
professional, social, and physical
burden of the consequences of the misconduct
of these other
individuals.
She
requests that the
financial compensation and resources
that have unjustly and
violently
been denied her
be restored immediately and
that arrangements
be made to rectify other related
situations.
